Awhile back Mountain Dew decided to hold a contest where voters could 'create' the next new flavor of Mountain Dew. What came out was the new Voltage flavor, Mountain Dew charged with raspberry citrus flavor and ginseng.
Taste:
As from the picture above, it is clear that this soda is of the very fake variety. The artificial blue should give anyone the idea that the taste will probably be just as artificial. My first sip gave me the impression of blue, before actually seeing the color of the soda. After drinking some more the best I can describe this soda's taste is a blue berry, not a blueberry mind you. There is a taste of berry but it is much more overpowered by a sense of blue-ness. Despite all this, it is not the most unpleasant soda I've drank, sure it's fake tasting but it is something different.
Smell:
Yup, I'm not entirely sure why I am adding this section. I just thought it had an interesting aroma that warranted a section. Probably you can guess how this soda smells. Did you guess fake? You'd be right then, if not then what were you thinking? Flowers and perfume? Anyway, it actually smells quite similar to how it tastes, a hint of some sort of berry but overpowered by a sense of blue-ness.
Other Notes:
Surprisingly this soda isn't overly fizzy. Some sodas suffer because they have an over abundance of carbonation, yet this one does not have too much. Also while it does leave a lingering taste it is not too strong. Yet although it isn't too strong it does wash out other tastes if you are eating other things. Some sodas have a heaviness due to the caramel, yet this soda is rather light in comparison.
Final Thoughts:
This soda is obviously for males in their teens to twenties. This is not a soda for the general public as the taste is very fake. Its a novel soda and will probably be forgotten before long as with most special flavors. If anything, trying one can will probably be enough for most people just to say that they have tried it, otherwise its nothing special.
