Mountain Dew Throwback Review

Lately many soda brands have been trying many things to bring back hype to what is generally a stagnant market. One example is how many sodas are trying to bring back the 'throwback' sodas, how they were made in the past. These throwback sodas are trying to sell themselves because they use real sugar instead of the high fructose corn syrup normally used to sweeten sodas. Mountain Dew is also taking part in the throwback craze.

Taste:
Surprisingly this thowback version tastes good. It does not taste like the normal version of Mountain Dew, perhaps this is due to the real sugar being used. In fact for the most part it is actually hard to discern any real taste of Mountain Dew, overpowered by the taste of sugar. While the main taste is of sugar, it is not a strong sugary taste. A pleasant taste overall. Only if trying to find the Mountain Dew taste, will one be able to actually taste it. Also the taste of the soda is not left to linger on the tongue, it quickly leaves which is nice. The only thing that remains is a sense of sugar, which can be good or bad depending on your taste.

Fizzyness:
While the original Mountain Dew is rather fizzy, the throwback version is actually quite pleasant in that it doesn't overpower the drinker with fizz. With some sodas, it can be hit or miss with how much carbonation the soda has. With the throwback version, a drinker is aware that it is a soda with the fizz but not overpowered by it. 

Other Notes:
The Mountain Dew Throwback is a soda that does not have a strong scent. While the scent might not give away what soda you are drinking, its color surely will. The traditional Mountain Dew green color remains so there is really no escape from people knowing what you are drinking.  

Final Thoughts:
This is a soda I can actually see doing well if more people pick it up. Unlike the original, this version actually has a nice taste that a wide variety of people could enjoy. Unfortunately, this seems to be another one of those specialty sodas that will be discontinued after a short period because creators would not want to surpass the original. Overall this is a nice and pleasant soda and would recommend people to go out and buy it while it is available.
