C3 -CubexCursedxCurious-

One of the first shows to finish this Fall 2011 season. Could C3 leave a lasting impression or was it a dud? Jump the break to find out!

What is it: A boy discovers a mysterious package on his doorstep from his father, containing a black cube. Later on he finds out that the cube can transform into a person and is a cursed object. Based on the light novel written by Hazuki Minase with illustrations by Sasorigatame, it was adapted into a 12 episode anime by Silver Link in 2011.

Why it's special: Cute girls that have a rather dark side to them is the theme of this show. To be quite frank there isn't really much setting C3 apart from other shows besides the fact that it allows its Voice Actresses time to test out their 'crazy' voice.

Plus One:
The dark side: What makes C3 a bit interesting is each character contains a sort of manic side. While everyone seems to be pleasant at first, later on they show that not all is well with them. This makes for an interesting dynamic in trying to figure out when they might snap again.

The similarities: C3 is very similar to Studio Deen's Kore wa Zombie desu ka? If you enjoyed KoreZom then you might enjoy C3 but more on that later.

Minus One:
The plot: Everything about the plot is scattered. While watching C3 I had to re-watch a few episodes to make sure I had not missed any points yet I still felt lost because things were not explained properly. Also C3 tends to introduce characters and kind of drops then by the wayside by the next episode.

The similarities: While I said earlier that fans may enjoy C3 if they like KoreZom, this is actually a bit of a stretch. While there are undoubtably going to be fans, it does seem as if C3 was a ripoff of KoreZom, yet no where as good.

The ending: While I won't spoil the ending for anyone, there is a cliffhanger as if they want to make a second season without really knowing if it will get one or not. I really dislike these kinds of endings because not only does it not wrap anything up but if it does end like this then they introduced many new things that are never going to be explained.

All for One:
While C3 is not a bad anime per say, it isn't very good. A forgettable show that won't really stand the test of time. Overall I would say C3 is a filler show, in that it can pass time while waiting for something else. It tires to be KoreZom while trying to be something else and does neither very well. C3 is probably for fans of hearing voice actresses doing a manic voice every once in a while or for those wanting more KoreZom.
